It’s been so long since I’ve seen that happy little light that I thought it may have burned out. It could have been on all these many thousand miles and I never knew it.

Happily, it came on to today. It even came with an accompanying beep that startled me (not hard to do) this morning while commuting.

Now, for most people, this would be a cause for concern. Not for me though. See, my engine likes to try to stall on me from time to time. My mechanic and I have narrowed it down to one of two faulty sensors that act up on occasion. Since my car is now over 10yrs old with over 160,000 miles on it I don’t think its worth putting in a couple of sensors which each cost a few hundred bucks. Sot he good part is when the Check Engine light comes on, it apparently “ignores” the faulty sensor(s). The result is poor gas mileage (probably dumping fuel into the cylinders), BUT the idle smoothes out (mostly).
