I don’t normally watch the FA Cup matches unless it happens to be two big teams (like top 10) playing against each other. Well, I was bored this weekend since there was nothing else on so I caught a little bit of the two matches this Saturday on FSC.
Chelsea vs Huddersfield was a snoozer. It reaffirmed why I don’t watch these matches. Chelsea had all of its scrubs in (granted, their scrubs are better than most regulars on other clubs), and Huddersfield was bunkering trying to keep the game close and maybe steal a goal. Boooooring.
Liverpool versus Barnsley was a whole ‘nother story :)
Liverpool came out the same way as Chelsea, but Barnsley was up to the task. They’ve got some guys with good talent and heart and they stood toe-to-toe with ‘Pool all the way. In fact, they did such a good job… THEY WON THE GAME. Upset Liverpool! HYSTERICAL!
All the credit in the world goes out to Barnsley. They took what the Reds gave them, and handed it right back. Liverpool had a few really good chances to ice the game, but some spectacular saves by their goalie Steele and some all-out diving, desperate defending and goal-line clearances kept them in it. Then towards the end, Barnsley’s top midfielder and Captain Brian Howard (who is a real player btw) got taken down in the penalty area with barely a minute or two left and didn’t get the call. Completely BOGUS non-call by the ref who was scared to call a PK against Liverpool, I’m sure. But justice was served a few seconds later as Howard got the ball back, cut towards the top of the box and let loose a shot that just skipped in between the keeper and the near post. A few more seconds, and the game was over.
Awesome.
