We’ve played two of the better teams in the league the first two weekends coming out 1-1 for the effort. NY is not one of the better teams, no matter what their pre-season ranking or off-season moves. The NY Red Bulls are kinda like the soccer equivalent of the Washington Redskins… great on paper, on the field not so much.

This is the first game of the Atlantic Cup this year. Every year NY and DC track who wins the most in their head-to-head matches and the season winner gets to keep the Atlantic Cup Trophy. The rivalry is always spectacular and dates back to MLS’ first season in 1996.

So far NY has shown an inability to hold a lead. And United over the past year+ has shown a great ability to score late. With the return of a well rested DeRosario today (thanks to a season opening two game suspension) and his history against NY I expect good things from him. I also expect good things from Chris Pontius today with his history of scoring against NYRB. And I flat out expect a great match. This is NY’s first home game, they are a littleĀ desperateĀ for a win (having lost their first two), and quite frankly…. they hate us.
