The Superbowl brought us more than just some football. Trailers for Terminator Salvation, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, Fast & Furious, G.I. Joe, and Star Trek made their mark this weekend. Here are a few links for very HQ trailers over at Trailer Addict.
Terminator: Salvation
Like McG says in his interview with Wired, it’s not like people went Terminator FOUR?!?!? Thats AWESOME!!!!!! In fact, the response was pretty much unanimous… Let it die already. Then it was announced the McG was doing it, and the people groaned again. BUT… Christian Bale signed on… hmmm. Interesting. Then some clips got shown at ComiCon. Hmmm. More interest.

Star Trek
JJ Abrams might have a pretty good winner here. They are “rebooting” the franchise just like with Terminator. So all bets are off as to what they will keep consistent with the existing Star Trek universe. I, for one, think the franchise needed the change. Just keep to the principle ideals of the story (Kirk is a pimp, Spock is my clone), and I’ll be happy. Some of the pyrotechnics in the trailer are spectacular, and as in any classic Star Trek film, you need a battle. See Wrath of Kahn and Undiscovered Country for proof possitive.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
You’ve seen some of the concept art floating around. Now here is the CG version of them. Looks like a Battle Royale to me. Seems like there may be some real bad moments for the good guys in this one (I haven’t yet seen any plot spoilers). Megan Fox looks distressed and is screaming “Noooo!” in one scene, Shia Labeuf is pinned by who I think is StarScream. Their is a MASSIVE transformer on a unicycle who I am assuming is the big Constructicon. Is that Optimus Prime who gets half of his face punched off?

Fast and Furious.
OK, let’s go through the previous titles in this franchise.

Featuring the return of Vin Diesel and that white guy from the first film. Michelle Rodriguez (who I’m shocked to know most people either think she is smoking hot, or dog poo. No middle ground there) and that chick who was on Chuck, who used to be on some other show and is generally regarded as pretty hot, are starring as the femme fatales. The word on the internetwebs is if you liked Toyko Drift, you’ll like this one.

G.I. Joe
Not sure about this one. I’m leaning towards “not good”. I recognize three people. One is Duke who is played by that guy from the Step Up movie, the other is the guy who played Doctor Who and the invisible guy on Heroes is (I think) the President (but may also be a bad guy, possibly a future COBRA?), and finally Ray Park (Darth Maul) who plays Snake Eyes. I’m not sure if thats a good thing. The trailer has some interesting spots though. The Baroness is hot, and they knock over the Eiffel Tower. There’s that one scene where two actors dodge some missiles(?) while the camera scrolls left… It looks like a ripoff from the Transformers scene where Ironhide does a flip over an incoming missile. *sigh* I’m hoping for the best, but have serious doubts.
