So You Think You Can Dance had the top 20 dancers on last night. I thought it was pretty good, although not great. Some of the choreography was just “OK” and then the dancing on top of it was just “OK”. There were a few highlights for me though… The Katee & Joshua “No Air” hip-hop routine was a standout, not just for the choreography, but they both showed a lot of emotion. They both look like cryers, which will probably help them out a lot. Sidenote: My old lady says Katee reminds her of Kristi Yamaguchi (the ice skater), and I think she reminds me of Grace Park… Go Figure.

Heres the video. Get it while it’s hot, not sure how long it will stay online.

The other couple I liked was Kherington & Twitch, otherwise known as “Twitchington”. I didn’t like the choreography that much and it seemed a bit uncomfortable for the both of them, but they brought a lot of energy that overshadowed any negatives. I like that Twitch seems to get a bit more respect than Hok (asian hiphop/breaker) did last year. I thought Hok did some really, really good stuff last year even in genres that were not a strength for him and they were always so hard on him, but that other kid who kept messing up they kept saying “you’ve got so much potential”. Sidenote: Kherington reminds me of this really cool slightly older chick I went out with once or twice many many many years ago. Very cute, very petite, soccer playing blonde (met her playing coed soccer) with short cropped hair, dark roots (haha!), bubbly personality. I had to drop it though because she worked for some big Corp and i actually had to plan dates a MONTH in advance.
I couldn’t understand back then how a job could take over your life… I know now…

Anyway, here’s their dance routine…

And last but not least, Chelsie H. & Mark who did a Mia Michaels routine. I’ve got a lot of respect for Mia Michaels… she is clearly an “artist” in every sense of the word. She has a genius about her work, but she also seems a bit crazy too. Not only does she have these great visions for her work, but she gets all these dancers to “get it” and perform it, and *that* is the hard part.
